Viv sings in a range of styles, with interests in Acapella, electronic music (Amorefish), free jazz and the jazz standards

Malcolm has a range of artistic interests, including drumming.

Keys: Peter Bragge

Peter Bragge is a classically trained pianist who attained his Licentiate (L.T.C.L) at the instrument in 1991. Since then he has focused on jazz and blues  and currently plays in a soul band in addition to Blue Ceiling. He also teaches piano privately part-time.

Fretless Bass: Adam Fforde

Adam has been playing electric bass since the 1970s, playing in a range of genres. For jazz, he shifted to fretless in 1990 after playing in Double Standards, a London electric jazz quartet of the 1980s.

Tenor sax: Phil Hayter

While completing his Bachelor of Music (Saxophone) and subsequent Bachelor of Education at James Cook University, Phil played in a wide range of settings, from corporate functions to jazz festivals throughout North Queensland. Relocating to Malaysia, Phil played a feature performance at the Mont Kiara Jazz Festival, and was the guest artist for International Music House in Kuching. Phil has two books of compositions and five solo pieces published by JozzBeat Music Publishers. Currently residing in Melbourne, Phil works as an instrumental teacher and performs with a number of big bands and has held residencies with smaller groups at several restaurants.

HISTORY

Blue Ceiling was founded in Canberra as a quartet in 1994 (Viv Waller on voice, Adam Fforde on bass, Don Lambert on drums and Yechiam Marx on keys, later Nick Scofield on guitar)

We then reformed in Melbourne in 2003 as a trio: voice (Viv), guitar (Jim Swainston) and fretless bass (Adam).

And then re-formed as a quintet in 2008 ...
